Our vision is that all children should enjoy using their mathematical skills and should feel confident when applying the skills they have learned. Children should be supported by the use of concrete or pictorial methods before moving to abstract methods.

This approach enables children to think more deeply about mathematical concepts. Pupils begin by using concrete resources, move on to pictorial representations and gain a strong understanding of mathematical concepts before moving onto abstract/ written methods. It also gives pupils the opportunity to practise, consolidate and apply their learning and understanding to solving problems, therefore helping pupils to develop their confidence.
