MFL: Spanish

We believe that it is important for pupils to understand the benefit and purpose of learning a Modern Foreign Language whilst also having fun and enjoying the learning of Spanish. The learning of a second language helps pupils to understand their place in the world and gives them a skill which will contribute towards success in their professional future.

Spanish is taught by a native speaking Spanish teacher during weekly lessons which follow the Hackney Learning Trust scheme of work. In the EYFS and Key Stage 1, informal lessons teach Spanish through games and songs. In Key Stage 2, Spanish lessons are more formal and last for 30 minutes a week. During these lessons, children develop their knowledge of Spanish through speaking, listening, writing and understanding. Pupils are taught basic Spanish grammar during lessons.

At De Beauvoir we also celebrate Spanish culture through a range of activities during Spanish Week.
