Nos encanta el español en De Beauvoir. We love Spanish at De Beauvoir.
At De Beauvoir, we recognise how important it is for children to be exposed to different cultures and languages in order to better understand their place within the community, city and world they live in. The learning of a second language enables our children to develop the skills to live and work in a multi-cultural city and become global citizens.
At De Beauvoir, we recognise how important it is for children to be exposed to different cultures and languages in order to better understand their place within the community, city and world they live in. The learning of a second language enables our children to develop the skills to live and work in a multi-cultural city and become global citizens.
Weekly Spanish lessons build children’s vocabulary, understanding of grammar rules, enthusiasm and passion for speaking a second language. A Spanish Language specialist teaches engaging, fun lessons, which utilise games, singing and call-and-response to develop pupils’ Spanish skills. From Year 3, children learn basic Spanish phrases during both oracy and literacy lessons, and the progression ensures children are developing their understanding and proficiency in Spanish across Key Stage 2.
In addition, Year 4 are provided with an opportunity to use their Spanish language during a day in ‘mini-Seville’. Travelling to ‘Seville’, children use basic phrases to exchange their money, pass through Passport Control, visit a range of shops and café, and then write passports home. Es muy divertido.
What Spanish words do you know? Can you use some Spanish numbers when counting at home? Can you try talking with your family and friends in Spanish?
Why don’t you have a go playing some online games to practise your Spanish at home?
Buena suerte! (Good luck!)
