Our approach
At De Beauvoiur, regular music lessons take place for each class, whereby the children develop their understanding, make musical judgements, apply their new learning, develop their aural memory, express themselves physically, emotionally and through discussion and create their own musical ideas. They not only learn about music; they become musicians who are able to share their ideas and perform using their new skills.
Improvisation and composition form part of our whole-class music provision and our pupils are encouraged to behave as musicians and explore musical dimensions using their voices, body percussion and instruments. In addition, we also have weekly singing assemblies where the pupils are taught songs to sing in unison. Trips and enrichment activities are planned throughout the year to enhance the children’s appreciation of music. There are further opportunities to learn instruments, such as: the piano, the violin and the guitar here at De Beauvoir.
